Selected Architectural Projects From Around The World - 2023

At the end of 2023, we present this year’s selected 5 projects from around the world to wrap up the year. The architectural projects that came into life during this year not only have a positive impact but are very interesting and inspiring examples of transformation.

1. La Laguna - Productora converts Mexico City textile factory into green-trimmed artist studios

Located in Mexico City, Mexico, La Laguna is the transformation of a former textile factory built in 1920. The abandoned building was repurposed into studio spaces, inhabiting today up to 20 companies. Social spaces have been installed in the 2 courtyards so that members of various companies can encounter each other and build new connections.

The revival of the abandoned building brought a positive impact to the entire surrounding area.

2. Angel Yard – garages transformed into studios for young entrepreneurs by Jan Kattein Architects

Transformation of derelict garages in Angel Edmonton, England, into warm, generous, affordable spaces for community and young enterprise. As the project is located in an area populated with low-income residents and a poor living environment, we believe that the renovation will foster new opportunities and growth of local businesses and entrepreneurship bringing a positive impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

3. Trevarefabrikken – hotel and cultural hub by Jonathan Tuckey Design

Nestled in the arctic circle, on the otherworldly island of Henningsvær in Norway’s Lofoten archipelago is Trevarefabrikken. Originally opened in the 1940s as a factory (fabrikk in Norwegian) to produce cod liver oil and house a carpentry workshop, the once abandoned site is undergoing a character evolution into a hotel and cultural hub focused on wellbeing and leisure. The first phase of Trevarefabrikken is nearing completion with the guidance of Jonathan Tuckey Design. Four friends spontaneously purchased the dilapidated factory in 2014, and with the help of family, craftspeople, and the local community have gradually transformed the site into a powerful symbol of collaboration and rejuvenation.

5. SFJ6 Apartment Building by MARMOLBRAVO + MADhel

SFJ6 is an apartment, residential building located in Madrid, Spain.
This project attracted our attention due to its simplicity and visual solution. The architects were able to achieve a simple and rhythmic building architecture despite the complex landscape.

According to the author architects, during the development of the project, the team paid much attention to the revitalization of the surrounding public spaces and establishing a connection between the apartment building and the public spaces, which contributed to the integration of the residential complex with the city.
