The intention behind the TBC Bank headquarters' design was to revamp the existing structure from the 70s into a bold, forward-looking contemporary building, albeit within the traditional context.
The complex - initially built for the military forces of the Soviet Union, is located on Vake-Saburtalo Road, at the intersection of Tamarashvili Street, on the opposite side of the hippodrome. It consists of several blocks, with each volume being rectangular in shape. The frame is assembled of reinforced concrete columns and precast concrete structural elements. The building has the form of a U shape.
The building is divided into two principal areas - the "void," comprising essential public functions and facilities, and an inner courtyard that creates an oasis-like feel. A massive translucent sphere sitting in the lobby is a functional fifty-seat conference hall. The building's topmost level leads out to a lushly planted garden that is directly accessible from the lobby. The idea was to open up the building, democratize access and create a safe environment that would promote productivity and innovation among the growing and dynamic workforce. To achieve this, we broke up the main facade, now dominated by a geometrical cutout that leads to the green atrium. The atrium adds freshness to the corporate setting and forms the foundation of the TBC headquarters. It becomes a natural meeting place both for visitors and employees and encourages chance encounters. A transparent, dynamic façade further denotes the building's openness to its surrounding context. With individual access points to the courtyard, the platform ultimately becomes a secure and vibrant public realm.
The project won the hearts of the jury and won 2nd place in a closed competition.
