The site, designed by Shota Kavlashvili and built in the second half of the twentieth century, is located in Tbilisi, Ortachala neighborhood. Today the building serves the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Our main objective was to revitalize the existing building, expand the structure and replenish the facade. The main challenge was to innovate and create a modernized framework while preserving the spirit, authenticity, and characteristics of the Soviet-era architectural monument.
The design concept extends to filling the narrow facades of the building with light, curvy details. The curvy design created by vertically stacked forms stretches towards the entire perimeter. This undulating facade gives the Soviet building a new bold identity, further strengthening its character. These design updates and rethinking of the façade allowed us to renew the old MEP system, making the project extremely energy and resource-efficient.
